Agios Pharmaceuticals and its employees graciously helped 60 children living with sickle cell disease prepare for the new school year by purchasing, filling, and delivering backpacks with school supplies and gift cards. We are incredibly grateful for this thoughtful and generous initiative, which supported 30 families in honor of Caring for Children’s 30th anniversary.

John Iovieno, founder of the Frank and Rosemary Iovieno Caring for Children Foundation, was honored with the 35th Reunion Achievement Award at the University of Rochester’s Class of 1990 Reunion. This award celebrates his nearly three decades of dedicated work supporting families with children facing serious illnesses.
Leah Ellis’ kindness, resilience, and unwavering spirit left a lasting impact on everyone who knew her, making the Wrapping Party a cherished tradition for her and her family. To honor her memory, the Caring for Children Board has unanimously decided to rename the event The Leah Ellis Memorial Wrapping Party, celebrating her love for giving and bringing joy to others. Leah’s compassion and selflessness, even in the face of her challenges, embody the very heart of this annual tradition.

Last year’s 26th Holiday Effort was a huge success for the Caring for Children organization as we helped over 800+ children. We have never eclipsed 800 children before, so this was a monumental and memorable effort that we take great pride in. We would like to once again send out a huge thanks to the participation and generosity of thousands of sponsors (corporate and individual sponsorship) for enabling Caring for Children to achieve such a milestone effort. The children we support have life-threatening and/or life-limiting illnesses (siblings included) and live throughout Massachusetts and upstate New York.
Welcome to our milestone 25th Annual Frank and Rosemary Iovieno Caring for Children Holiday Effort for 2021! Last year’s Holiday Effort was a stellar effort for the Caring for Children organization despite the pandemic as we helped over 550+ children once again through the participation and generosity of thousands of sponsors (corporate and individual sponsorship). These children have life-threatening and life-limiting illnesses (siblings included) and live throughout Massachusetts and upstate New York.
We are so excited to launch our newly-designed website today! We conducted this months-long website design effort to improve our branding and provide better functionality to our audience. We wanted to make the new website faster, easier to navigate, and more user-friendly. This new website provides a fantastic place to showcase our excellent volunteers, our fantastic organizations, and our generous donors.

On March 4, 2001, the Boston Celtics honored John Iovieno, by presenting him with a Heroes Among Us award. The Heroes Among Us award recognizes those individuals that have made exceptional and lasting contributions to their community. After reading the Boston Globe article about Caring For Children on Christmas Eve in 2000, the Celtic personnel chose John Iovieno to be honored. The award was presented to John at center court by Celtics player Antoine Walker and Charlotte Hornets player, David Welsey at a Celtics game, while details of his community efforts were announced over the public address system.
“Four years ago, with no particular child in mind, John donated a holiday gift to Children’s Hospital. After hearing about the impact he made on a young patient, John founded the Frank Iovieno Caring for Children at Christmas Foundation, named in honor of his late father. The year-round foundation provides children in the Hospital’s AIDS program with necessities most of us take for granted, such as clothing, food, and toys. The Foundation served over 125 families living in the Boston area.”
All the individuals honored on this evening were read into the United States Congressional Record by Massachusetts Senator, Ted Kennedy on June 22, 2001.
